Mentoring: Preparation of Science Teacher Mentors
CSE collaborates with school districts, state agencies, and higher education institutions to design and conduct comprehensive preparation programs for science educators who will work with teachers new to teaching middle-grades science. Based on a content-based mentoring model supported by the National Science Foundation, the program can now be customized to match local needs, interests and contexts.
This particular mentoring program is unique because it interweaves science content and pedagogy with mentoring skills. It is:
- A replicable model easily adapted to diverse settings;
- An approach that is compatible with other innovative professional development programs and teacher professional growth activities;
- Opportunities for leadership and advanced training for experienced teachers.
- A way to contribute to the credentialing of new teachers.
