Inquiry Stage Two
Building from this open exploration to Stage Two, students arrive at a question they wish to explore, or the teacher may guide them to a specific query. As students design and conduct their investigations, they continue to jot down notes and questions, and cooperative groups continue using informal language. But the necessity arises for more formal use of language, particularly as they write down their plans and procedures and collect their data. As investigations move forward, carefully selected books provide needed information, examples of experimentation, and new experimental strategies. Students need to become critical consumers of information, knowing how to carefully select and compare information, etc. Group discussions still include impressions and feelings, but must also focus on the clear sharing of data and the beginning of thoughtful analysis.
