Distance Education Programs

The California Post-Secondary Education Commission (CPEC)

This Web site provides links to consortia in some 30 states that, in turn, link to online college credit programs. Courses in science and education are available for middle and high school grades. An example of a linked site is the “Illinois Virtual Campus,” which itself is a consortium of Illinois universities and colleges where distance-learning courses, including graduate courses, are available at all levels, and in various delivery modes, including broadcast television, correspondence, interactive TV, Internet, and “stored media.”

Electronic Campus

Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)

This Web site offers courses and programs offered by accredited colleges and universities in the SREB states for middle school and high school teachers.

The site can be searched for college or university, discipline, level, and/or state. Courses in science and education are available for middle and high school grades.

Masters 4 Teachers

Canter and Associates, Sylvan Learning Systems

This Web site offers master’s in education programs with specializations in elementary reading and literacy; integrating technology in the classroom; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and middle-level education through Walden University, an accredited university. Individual graduate courses are also offered through universities around the country and generally focus on broad teacher and management concerns.

National Science Teachers Association

The Web site provides links to middle and high school courses and programs offered by NSTA’s partner organizations, as well as on-site seminars and courses offered by NSTA. The primary links are to JASON Academy and the National Teachers Enhancement Network, both of which are mentioned above.
