Description: | Classroom FeederWatch promotes scientific inquiry through children’s natural fascination with birds. The program instructs students on how to set up bird feeders in their schoolyard and guides them through the processes of identification, tracking, and behavior study. In addition, the data the students collect are sent to scientists at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology via the Internet and are incorporated into ongoing ecological research at the lab. This interaction with university scientists provides students with a real sense of purpose, knowing that the data they have collected are part of a continent-wide effort to learn more about bird population dynamics. The curriculum includes lesson plans, called Explorations, designed for classes in upper-elementary through middle school. | ||
