A presentation from the 2006 NSTA convention. An article also titled Story: The Backbone of Science Learning which was co-written by Jud Hill and Laura Baumgartner, a field test teacher from Bellevue, Washington, will be published in The Science Teacher in October of 2008. It uses “The Perfect Race: Measuring Changes in Motion” and the story of the great sprinter, Florence Griffin Joyner, to challenge students to measure and represent velocity and acceleration. The story is taken from Foundation Science: Physics.
