Equity is one of the many components of systemic science education. While equity has many different definitions, for the CUSER institute, "Promoting Equal Access to High Quality Science Education," equity was defined as equal access. For students, equal access refers to unhindered involvement and full participation in schools and high quality programs within those schools. However, equal access to quality programs is not sufficient. For students to achieve at high levels, they also need equal access to high standards and opportunities to learn that take into account individual needs and learning styles. Teachers and administrators, too, require equal access to resources, such as appropriate facilities, qualified staff, and instructional materials. This report provides observations recorded at the institute on Promoting Equal Access to High Quality Science Education, hosted by the CUSER project.
