| The purpose of the profiles is to provide useful information for teachers and school systems engaged in the process of examining and choosing science curriculum materials appropriate for their settings. The curriculum profiles include summaries of selected commercially available K–12 science curriculum programs. Each profile describes a number of components of the program to make comparisons among them easier. For example, all profiles include an overview of the contents of the curriculum, the intended age range, and topics covered. The profiles also describe the format of the product, such as whether the teacher guide is a three-ring binder, or whether a kit of materials is included or must be purchased seperately. A brief description of the instructional design is included, which refers to issues such as whether the curriculum consists of several modules that all around societal issues, or where opportunities for student inquiry appear, or how assessment is handled. |
