New Professional Development Opportunity in Middle-Grades Science Mentoring
2009–2010 Opportunities
The Middle-Grades Science Mentoring Program of EDC's Center for Science Education is offering professional development during the 2009–2010 school year for middle-grades science teachers to prepare them to be mentors/coaches to other middle-grades science teachers, either those new to teaching or those new to teaching science.
A few of the project’s highlights follow:
- Teachers will engage in activities with NSF-funded, inquiry-based curricula while gaining experience with the mentoring strategies and tools of goal setting, observation, and assessment in order to improve teaching practice and student learning.
- Institute days will be held once a month on Saturdays from 8:30 am–3:30 pm in Newton, Mass.
- PDPs and graduate credit are available.
- Each teacher will receive $500 to be used for materials, for stipends, or toward the cost of graduate credit.
